  1. Download the image

    wget https://cdn.spacetelescope.org/archives/images/large/heic1206a.jpg
  2. Install GIMP and the Clocks App

    sudo apt install gimp gnome-clocks
  3. Open the Clocks app to use as a stopwatch

  4. Open the heic1206a.jpg image in GIMP

  5. Click the Convert button when prompted

  1. Download dependencies

    sudo apt-get install libncurses-dev flex bison openssl libssl-dev dkms libelf-dev libudev-dev libpci-dev libiberty-dev autoconf
  2. Download the kernel source

    wget https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v5.x/linux-5.5.1.tar.xz
  3. Untar the archive and change into the kernel directory

    tar xvf linux-5.5.1.tar.xz && cd linux-5.5.1/
  4. Configure

    make defconfig

So we tried it on a computer that can take the heat and quickly channel it out the exhaust port. Use the following instructions to replicate this test on your machine at home.   1. Download dependencies

    sudo apt install php-cli php-common php-xml php7.3-cli php7.3-common php7.3-json php7.3-opcache php7.3-readline php7.3-xml
  2. Download the Phoronix Text Suite

    wget http://phoronix-test-suite.com/releases/repo/pts.debian/files/phoronix-test-suite_9.2.1_all.deb
  3. Install the Test Suite

    sudo dpkg -i phoronix-test-suite_9.2.1_all.deb
  4. Install the Blender Benchmark

    phoronix-test-suite install blender
  5. Run the Blender Benchmark

    phoronix-test-suite benchmark blender
  6. Choose the Classroom Scene Benchmark

  7. Choose CPU-only

  8. Choose "n" when prompted save the results

  9. Re-enable the GNOME lock screen

    gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-lock-screen

OVERPERFORM, WITHOUT OVERHEATING

Simply buying a 64-Core CPU doesn’t guarantee you’ll get the full 64 Cores worth of performance.
